Onam Celebation On 31st August 2020

Onam is a festival celebrated in Kerala, India. It is a harvest festival celebrated by Keralites irrespective of religion.

Much like during Diwali, people place flower arrangements around their community, and outside their homes, called pookkalam. They are considered auspicious and are placed to welcome King Mahabali.

Women wear a kasavu sari during Onam, a special cream coloured sari with a gold border. Meanwhile, men wear the mundu draped around their waist.

The rich cultural heritage of Kerala comes out in its best form and spirit during the 10 day long festival.

The most impressive part of onam celebration is the grand feast called Onasadya prepared on Thiruvonam which consists of 9 course meal having 25 to 30 items

The Legend of King Mahabali, is the most popular and the most facinating of all legends behind Onam, Onam celebrates the visit of king mahabali to the state of Kerala every year.

The festival is celebrated with fervour as king mahabali is greatly respected by his subjects.

Onam Sadya

ONAM POOKALAM – KERALITES make the carpet of flowers which is known as POOKALAM and lay in front of their house to welcome the king Mahabali.
