ULO commenced providing the service of utilizing industrial fabrics for the use of a form to contain a cement based grout in 1964 for the civil construction industry.
The name ULO stands for “UFERSCHUTZ LOSINGER” which interprets to "Shore Protection Losinger". Losinger was a Swiss construction firm with ULO as a division, formed to repair waterways and canals using revetment mattresses.
With the major discovery and development of oil in the North Sea in the late 60's, the use of fabric formwork was seen as a major development for utilization by the offshore oil industry. Therefore ULO expanded to serve the offshore oil and gas industry with the technology of underwater grouting using fabric formwork to contain the grout material. ULO has been providing solutions of using industrial patented woven fabrics to make shapes and forms for containing a hardening medium for 45 years.
ULO formed a joint venture and established a base in Aberdeen to provide a service in this area, and the name COLOS, a joint venture between the British grouting specialists Colcrete Ltd. and the Swiss civil engineering company Losinger Ltd. The name “COLOS” became synonymous with the offshore oil & gas industry boom in the North Sea and Globally. ULO performed the majority of structural grouting and especially the underbase grouting to the Ninian Central Platform.
ULO presence in the Middle East commenced in 1978. ULO as the division of German Gulf Enterprise LTD in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates and expanded into India in 1979.
With rising prices in Europe it was decided to decentralise from Europe and open the manufacturing base in the Middle East in 1988. From the Middle East main headquarters, all products are manufactured and sent to the various locations worldwide.
ULO over the years has had a policy of globally positioning grouting equipment to serve appointed areas.
ULO is continually expanding its product range and enhancing the choice of products to suit client’s requirements. The terminology ‘it cannot be done or manufactured’ is a very difficult expression in the ULO mind set.
ULO also is continuously expanding and enhancing its fleet of grouting equipment of which all is developed and constructed by ULO in house.
ULO develops its own handling, placing, testing equipment for ROV or Diver Installation.ULO has also developed sub-sea grouting connector.
ULO entered Concrete Mattress manufacturing in 1997 and has provided many customers with this alternative solution globally. ULO has developed an advanced design in 2010.
